What Will You Learn?

  • You will learn all about how and why anxiety manifests itself in various individuals, which is interesting in and of itself - but - this course shows you exercises and coping techniques that you can match specifically to certain symptoms, types of anxiety, and reasons for the anxiety.
  • You will learn about why we need anxiety, why it's part of us and why our brains developed the ability to feel anxiety.
  • You will also learn all about the specific part of the brain responsible for our feelings of anxiety, and how to manage anxiety quickly and effectively on a biological level.
  • We will also look at the emotional reasons for anxiety, including how trauma affects us and why we react so extremely to certain stimuli.
  • Mindset and how and what we think is incredibly important when considering causes of anxiety, so you'll learn about negative thinking and the various categories that negative thinking falls into. You'll then learn how to challenge this negative thinking, creating a completely new perspective on how to deal with these thought processes.
  • Environmental factors are also important, so you'll learn how to look out for these and what factors are important.
  • You will see case studies and examples of how anxiety can manifest in the therapy room. This course has not only been written by a therapist, but also an ex-anxiety disorder sufferer. This means you will gain a unique perspective on anxiety and how to not only figure out what is going on for the anxiety sufferer, but also how to help them. The exercises and coping techniques in this course have been tried and tested. You are given specific guidance on how to apply these techniques and use the exercises so that you feel confident tackling anxiety. Please note that this course has been developed by someone who is an ex-anxiety disorder sufferer as well as a therapist. None of this course is intended to come across as judgemental, however if you haven't worked in this way before you might find it difficult to challenge anxiety in the manner shown. Please feel free to interpret and re-frame the exercises and coping techniques to the way that you work, or suits you or your practice the best. The author of this course believes it's important for the anxiety sufferer to challenge their anxiety, otherwise they run the risk of believing everything the anxiety tells them and they'll never recover. Challenging anxiety should be done in a kind, constructive and calm way so that the sufferer feels able to do this themselves.
  • Finally, you will be provided with an introductory list of anxiety disorders, listing the main symptoms, including an extremely rare anxiety disorder that the therapist who wrote this course has only seen once in their decade long career...

There are three parts to the visualisation: Relaxation --> To ensure the following visualisation is the most effective Sorting Boxes --> To clear your mind and process worries and recurring or intrusive thoughts Calm Place --> A place you feel calm, and protected. This part of the visualisation also refers to nurture, so that you link the feelings of being calm and relaxed to being nurtured and positive. You can use the sorting boxes exercise in your waking life, so without using the visualisation, to help calm your mind. You can also visualise your calm place to evoke the feelings of calm and relaxation that you feel in your calm place, in your waking life. Enjoy!
